About Pine City Enterprises

Pine City Enterprises gets its name from Pine City. Pine City is a fictions city that is, in reality, a stand of pine trees about 1 acre in size located just outside of Easley, South Carolina. In this patch of woods, my childhood friends and I made numerous bicycle trails that evolved into motorcycle trails. Pine City was a place to camp, squirrel hunt, and play among many other innocent activities from my childhood.

Today, a portion of land next to Pine City is the site of Pine City Enterprises. Pine City Enterprises encompasses a gunsmith shop (Pine City Arsenal), a wood working shop Pine City Woodworking, a machine shop with a blacksmith forge (Pine City Forge).

Pine City Arsenal produces reproduction historical firearms from the earliest colonies in “The New World”, the American Revolution, the War Between the States (1861 – 1865) and other time periods from various nations. The production line also includes historical reproduction and modern knives (fighting, hunting, and utility), modern firearms, firearm accessories and replacement parts, ammunition components, and various other items. Pine City Arsenal’s first firearm is a reproduction of a Morse Carbine (https://www.forgottenweapons.com/confederate-morse-carbine-centerfire-cartridges-ahead-of-their-time/). This carbine went into production during the War Between the States in Greenville, South Carolina which is about 15 miles from Pine City Enterprises and was issued to South Carolina State Militia. Approximately 1000 carbines were produced before the war’s end. It saw three evolutions before production ended, Type I, Type II, and Type III. Our production starts with the Type IV. The Type IV is as true to the appearance of a Type III carbine on the exterior as possible. The major differences are in construction material. The carbine produced during the war was made of cast brass and steel. The Type IV is made of steel with some brass plating. The steel provides a more robust and safer carbine. The receiver is cast in 4140 steel (often referred to as “ordinance steel” due to many modern firearms being made of the same steel) and brass plated for the historical appearance. Design flaws from the Type III are addressed and corrected to prevent historical failures in the Type IV carbine. For example, the breech being made of 4140 steel instead of brass helps prevent the breech block cracking just in front of the hinge point. This was a common point of damage in the historical carbine. The barrel on the Type IV has a different “twist rate” in the rifling. This allows improved accuracy over the Types I – III.

Pine City Woodworking manufactures items ranging from custom kitchen cabinets and doors, various games (corn-hole, chess sets, cribbage sets, and so on), and other custom items ranging from plaques, small figurines, to tables. Production also includes reproductions of various wooden ammunition crates (used by many reenactments and living history groups to store modern items out of sight), as well as wooden barrels, and reproduction historical and modern furniture. The main purpose for the woodshop is to produce historical reproduction gun stocks and special customer ordered gun stocks.

Pine City Forge is a general “Job Shop”. We support local industry with custom and OEM parts, and individual part requests from the general public. We utilize both Computerized Numerical Controlled (CNC) metal working machines as well as manual machines. Pine City Forge is also a general blacksmith forge. Along with supporting Pine City Enterprises, the forge is a fabrication forge. We produce iron camp fire cooking implements, eating utensils, and various items with decorative and functional use.

Pine City Enterprises will endeavor to fill your needs. If we don’t have your item in inventory, we will fabricate it. If it is beyond our fabrication abilities (we can’t make everything, be we will try) we will attempt to locate someone who can.
